The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren’t any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and will lead to several problems that affect the environment in which we humans live in. These problems can lead to warmer temperatures all around the world, it can endanger animals and the wildlife, and it can lead to widespread flooding from the glaciers melting. Still unnerved from her encounter with Hale, Susan gazed out through the one-way glass of Node 3. The Crypto floor was empty. Hale was silent again, engrossed. She wished he would leave. She wondered if she should call Strathmore; the commander could simply kick Hale out-after all, it was Saturday. Susan knew, however, that if Hale got kicked out, he would immediately become suspicious. Once dismissed, he probably would start calling other cryptographers asking what they thought was going on. Susan decided it was better just to let Hale be. He would leave on his own soon enough. An unbreakable algorithm. She sighed, her thoughts returning to Digital Fortress. It amazed her that an algorithm like that could really be created-then again, the proof was right there in front of her; TRANSLTR appeared useless against it. Susan thought of Strathmore, nobly bearing the weight of this ordeal on his shoulders, doing what was necessary, staying cool in the face of disaster. Susan sometimes saw David in Strathmore. It was written in LIMBO-not one of his specialties. Just by looking at it, though, Hale could tell one thing for certain-this was not a diagnostic. He could make sense of only two words. In its report on trends in the newspaper industry, the WAN said nearly 515 million copies of newspapers were sold daily in 2007 and read by an estimated more than one billion people worldwide. China, India and Japan were the worlds biggest newspaper markets in 2007 and China overtook Japan as the country with the highest number of publications in the world. Three-quarters of the worlds 100 best selling daily newspapers were now published in Asia where sales were up 4.1 percent for the year. The figures from WANs annual survey of press trends, were released to more than 1,300 publishers, editors and other senior newspaper executives from 81 countries attending the World Newspaper Congress and the World Editors Forum, Asias biggest ever media gathering. Worldwide newspaper circulation grew 2.1 percent, the number of daily titles was up two percent and advertising revenue rose 5.3 percent, its biggest jump in four years, the WAN report said. It has been an extraordinarily positive 12 months for the global newspaper industry, said Timothy Balding, director general of the Paris-based WAN. Newspapers are clearly undergoing a renaissance through new products, new formats, new titles, new editorial approaches, better distribution and better marketing. Indian Newspaper Industry The Indian Newspaper industry can be primarily segmented across two categories viz English Newspapers and Regional / Vernacular Newspapers. The English medium dominates the industry in terms of advertisement revenues, though vernacular newspapers outperform the English newspapers in circulation. English newspaper industry in India has been fragmented with the players having a regional focus such as the Deccan Chronicle in Hyderabad, Hindustan Times in Delhi, Times of India in Mumbai, Hindu in Chennai, Telegraph and Statesman in Kolkata, Deccan Herald in Bangalore, Gujarat Samachar in Ahmedabad. However, the industry is witnessing a trend whereby players are looking beyond their home territories viz. Times of India’s and Business Standard’s entry into certain newer territories and Deccan Chronicle and Hindustan Times also doing the same. The competitive landscape has now drastically changed with major publishers trying to expand to other geographic regions, initiating price wars and marketing campaigns to win readers. The competitive intensity, which was quite â€Å"mild† until few years ago, also reached a higher level with the launch of DNA and Hindustan Times in the Mumbai market. A booming economy and the opportunity to raise funds from a well-developed financial market have also contributed to the growth of the newspaper industry in India. Indian newspaper industry had a turnover of Rs 13,500 crore in 2006. It is expected to touch Rs 15,500 crore. The size of media industry in India as a portion of the GDP is estimated at 0.7%, which is lower than most of the developed and developing nations. Thus it offers a scope of high growth in this industry moving forward. Advertising expenditure to GDP reveals that advertisement expenditure to GDP ratio in India is 0.4%. With rising income and education level in India, readership is expected to rise and with favorable demographics, advertising revenues will increase as advertisers start spending more to attract higher quality audience with more purchasing power. Newspaper publication is usually issued on a daily or weekly basis, the main function of which is to report news. Many newspapers also furnish special information to readers, such as weather reports, television schedules, and listings of stock prices. They provide commentary on politics, economics, and arts and culture, and sometimes include entertainment features, such as comics and crossword puzzles. In nearly all cases and in varying degrees, newspapers depend on commercial advertising for their income. Present scenario is that by the time, they see a newspaper, most people have already learned about breaking news stories on television or radio. Readers rely on newspapers to provide detailed background information and analysis, which television and radio newscasts rarely offer. Newspapers not only inform readers that an event happened but also help readers understand what led up to the event and how it will affect the world around them. The staff of a large newspaper works under the constant pressure of deadlines to bring news to readers as quickly as human energy and technological devices permit. Reporters, photographers, artists, and editors compile articles and graphics- sometimes in just a few hours. Page designers assemble articles, photos, illustrations, advertisements, and eye-catching headlines into page layouts, and then rush their work to the printer. Newspapers as known today are complete with advertising and a mixture of political, economic, and social news and commentary. Business news papers in India Publication of Business newspapers started in India by the launch of Economic Times on 5th march 1961. It has traditionally been the essential reference document on Indian business, polity, economy and finance. Its focus on the managerial component and evolving business in India and abroad makes it the favorite amongst intellectuals, managers as well as students and researchers, having recorded a staggering growth of 150% over the past few years. The Economic Times has emerged as the most widely circulated economic and business daily in the country and among the top three English financial dailies in the world. Business Standard was started in 1975 by the Ananda Bazaar group in what was then Calcutta, the paper was hived off as a separate company in 1996, and then bought by Mumbai-based financial investors, after which it began a phase of rapid expansion with the launch of new editions. The Financial Times of London took an equity stake in BSL in 2004. Business Line or The Hindu Business Line is an Indian business newspaper published by Kasturi and Sons, publishers of the The Hindu newspaper. Business Line started publishing in 1994. It is Indias youngest business newspaper and also the countrys second largest selling, with a circulation of one lakh copies, next to the Economic Times. Financial Times entered into the market after Business Line, so did the Hindustan Times, Mint and Financial Chronicle which is the youngest of the lot. Advantages of Likert-type scale 1) It is relatively easy to construct the Likert-type scale compared to the remaining scales because it can be done without a panel of judges. 2) The Likert scale is considered more reliable because each statement of the respondent is included in the instrument. 3) Each statement is given an empirical test for discriminating ability and as such the Likert-type scale permits the use of statements that are not manifestly related to the attitude being studied. 4) The Likert-type scale can easily be used in respondent-centered and stimulus centered studies, i.e., we can study how responses differ between people and between stimuli through it. 5) It takes much less time to construct the Likert-type scale and is frequently used by students of opinion research. Limitations of a Likert scale 1) In this scale we can only examine whether respondents are more or less favorable to a topic, we cannot tell how much more or less favorable they are. The interval between strongly agree and agree may not be equal to the interval between agree and undecided. 2) The total score of individual respondents has little clear meaning since a given total score can be secured by a variety of answer patterns. Methodology followed I have taken a sample size of 150 and did Face to Face research i.e. interacting with customers directly and through mail, which includes customers of different professions like 1) Bank employees 2) Insurance companies employees 3) IT professionals 4) Business men 5) Chartered accountants 6) B- school students I specifically targeted the above sectors because Business newspapers are more useful to them and they know very well about these newspapers. Hence I can get a clear perspective from them for my project. I prepared the questionnaire by keeping in mind several factors, which customers consider in purchasing Business newspapers. Factors considered while preparing the questionnaire. They are purchasing business newspaper because 1) To know about the growth of the economy. 2) Business dailies help you make your investments more strategically and smartly. 3) Recent upsurge/ fall in the stock market has generated considerable amount of interest in business dailies 4) Business newspapers are more helpful for the domestic trading people. 5) Linkages and Tie-ups with international financial newspapers increase the interest of reading business dailies. Few other questions are included in order to find out whether they want any changes in these business newspapers so that they will be helpful to them. Tabulation and Interpretations Sales of Business Standard During the 8 weeks of our project along with the market survey we were asked by the organization to do sales. They have given us a target of 25 subscriptions per month. My task was to conduct sales of pre paid subscription of Business Standard through a subsidized price scheme offered by the company. To know about the brand awareness of Business standard and what customers like in Business standard news paper, I asked the customers to rate the paper on the basis of following parameters 1) Editorial 2) News coverage 3) Annual and Monthly magazines 4) Less Price. Out of a sample size of 150 respondents 37- People said they are not having any idea about Business standard. 30- People said they liked the editorial section. 43- People said they liked the news coverage of Business standard. 22- People said they liked Annual and Monthly magazines. 18- People said because of less Price they are purchasing Business standard. Only 8% disagreed i.e. just 12 members out of 150.42 people strongly agreed that they are interested in subscribing for a business newspaper along with the regular newspaper. Inference The above data clearly says that there is a lot of scope for the growth of business newspapers in the present conditions. Many people are interested in subscribing for business newspapers along with the regular newspaper. In recent years there was a huge growth in business newspapers. Reading a financial daily is more interesting than reading a regular newspaper. Inference People are slowly changing their attitudes towards business newspapers, this data clearly says that these days many people are subscribing for business newspaper and they are more interested in reading them when compared with regular newspapers. Inference The above data clearly says that many people are interested in reading the regular news i.e. they said that they want only main important news of regular newspapers without having any unnecessary stuff. Few people said that if they give a supplement on general news they will buy only business newspaper. Very less number of people said that they are not interested in reading general news in Business newspaper, they said that Business newspaper means they should have only business related news. Inference By seeing the above data we can clearly say that Business dailies help people in making their investment more strategically i.e. more than 75% people agreed to this statement. They said that few supplements like Smart investor, few reports; analysis of the companies, analysis of Sensex helps them in taking decisions regarding their investments. People are showing more interest to know about the country’s economy i.e. GDP of the country, Inflation rate how it is varying and its effects, Policies and reforms introduced by RBI etc. The attitude of people to know about the economy and its growth has changed a lot, previously they did not exhibit interest in knowing about the economy, now they are showing interest to know about the growth of the economy. Boom/ Fall in Stock market has generated considerable amount of interest in business dailies. Inference These days most of the people are interested in knowing about the Stock market and its analytical reports. As most of the people, mainly IT professionals and business man are investing in stock markets they are mostly interested in purchasing business newspapers as they give detailed analysis about the stock market which will be helpful to them to have a detailed study and look through them and invest in the stock market. Few people who have not invested any money in the stock market are also interested in reading the news and reports about them to get a brief idea so that it may be useful to them if they are interested in investing in the stock market in the future. Business newspaper is more helpful for the domestic trading people. Inference These days as many people are doing domestic trading i.e. investing in stock market through online at homes. They are not going to any capital investment companies or stock brokers regarding this trading, mainly IT professionals and Insurance company employees are doing this domestic trading and they said that Business newspapers are more helpful to them in taking decisions in trading as daily supplements in business newspapers cater specially to trading aspects. Only 24% people agreed that they would like to see and the remaining 12% are undecided. Inference As most of the people are interested in reading Sports news in regular newspapers and few people only read sports news, I have included this question, to find out if people are interested, but, most of the people disagreed with the statement. Only few people, that too a few B-school students agreed to the idea. Many suggested that Business newspapers should not include Sports news because the uniqueness of business newspapers will be diluted by the inclusion. So it’s better not to include Sports news in Business newspapers. Conclusion: Its better not to include sports news in Business newspapers Association with International financial newspapers enhances the interest quotient in a Business daily Percentage Agree 72 48 Undecided 60 40 Disagree 18 12 Weighted average= 72*4+60*3+18*2/150=3.36 Analysis Out of a sample of 150, nearly 50% people agreed with the above statement that association with International finance newspapers enhances the interest quotient in a business daily. Only 12% people disagreed with the statement where as 40% people are undecided to comment about the statement. Inference As International financial newspapers are better than our National newspapers in all factors most of them suggested that association with them might enhance the interest quotient and the brand image of our financial newspaper. Among Indian newspapers only Business standard is associated with Financial Times of London, it has a 15% stake, which Business Standard portrays as the USP of their paper. Many of the respondents are in a dilemma whether it will be helpful in any way or not. Recommendations 1) Launching a new supplement on the IT sector can help in improving the sales of the newspaper to a great extent as during my interaction with customers, I could sense a great need for such a feature in a business newspaper. 2) Business Standard should be published on Sundays. On Sundays, Economic Times is priced high where as Business Line is available for Rs. 3. Hence, if BS can be published on Sundays, offered at a competitive price, then it can get an edge over the ET and BL. 3) Annual magazines are very popular among all the categories of the sample taken as the content is good and the information provided by those magazines is quite good. The respondents wanted these magazines to be published more frequently. 4) There are major problems with the circulation of the newspaper, which need to be addressed immediately. There are only two executives to deal with vendors across Bangalore for implementing the newspaper subscriptions. As a result, most of the customers do not receive the newspaper. Why Race Matters in the Amanda Knox Case Given the popularity true crime series covering O.J. Simpson, JonBenà ©t Ramsey, and Steven Avery have recently enjoyed, it’s no surprise that Netflix released the documentary â€Å"Amanda Knox† on Sept. 30 to enormous fanfare. The program stands out from others on Knox- the U.S. exchange student in Italy  accused of killing her British roommate  in 2007- in that it is largely told from her perspective. Teasers for the film show Knox sans makeup with a severely cut bob. Her features are now angular, the round cheeks that led the European press to call her â€Å"angel face† gone.   â€Å"Either Im a psychopath in sheeps clothing or I am you,† she says sternly. But the documentary only pretends to be interested in pinpointing the real Knox. The omission of information that reflects badly on her makes that clear throughout. Whether she’s guilty or innocent was never the most compelling aspect of her case, anyway- the culture clash, the false accusation of a black man for the crime, the slut-shaming and the idea that U.S. courts are somehow superior to Italian courts- are what drew in people from across the globe. Nearly a decade after Meredith Kercher’s murder, my questions about the case are unchanged. Would the press have given Knox as much attention if she’d been a student of color accused of killing her roommate abroad? Would Kercher, born to an English father and an Indian mother, have garnered more press had she been a blonde like Natalee Holloway?  People of color make up a disproportionate amount of crime victims and those falsely convicted of crimes, but they do not generally become celebrities like Knox and other whites, such as Avery, Ryan Ferguson and the West Memphis Three have.   The Central Park Five, the group of black and Latino teens wrongly convicted of attacking a white woman jogging in 1989, are the exception to the rule. Their conviction was the subject of a 2012 Ken Burns documentary. But from the outset, the public widely believed they were guilty. Donald Trump even referred to them as â€Å"animals† and took out a newspaper ad calling for their executions. When the real attacker confessed, Trump refused to apologize for his previous comments. In contrast, when he heard about Knox’s murder case, he offered to help her, demonstrating how an accused person’s race and gender affect public perception of her guilt or innocence. Reflecting on the Knox case in the age of Black Lives Matter makes it rather comical that Americans argued that the U.S. legal system was more just than the Italian counterpart. Only a few days after Knox’s 2009 conviction for killing Kercher, I wrote about my concerns with media coverage of the case for the now-defunct Racialicious blog. The conviction was later overturned, but my observations about Knox’s defenders remain relevant today as the Netflix documentary shines a spotlight on her case once more. As someone who, like Knox, traveled to Europe to study abroad, even visiting Italy during my time there, I sympathized with the young Seattle woman charged with killing her roommate while an exchange student in Perugia, Italy. Numerous articles portray the University of Washington student as an innocent wrongly targeted by a corrupt Italian prosecutor and victimized by Italians who were misogynistic and anti-American. Despite my sympathy for Knox- found guilty of murdering Meredith Kercher by an Italian jury Dec. 4- I take issue with the articles written in her defense. They reveal that America’s ideas about white womanhood have changed little since the 19th century, the whiteness of Italians remains tenuous and black men continue to make convenient crime scapegoats. I’ve no idea if Amanda Knox is innocent or guilty of the charges leveled at her- a jury’s already deemed her the latter- but some American journalists decided that she was innocent long before a verdict was reached. What’s disturbing about some of these journalists is that Knox’s race, gender, and class background played central roles in why they considered her innocent. Moreover, in defending Knox, their xenophobic and arguably â€Å"racist† feelings about Italy came to light. New York Times columnist Timothy Egan is a case in point. He wrote about Knox for the Times both in June and just before the jury issued its verdict in the case. â€Å"All trials are about narrative,† Egan remarked in the summer. â€Å"In Seattle, where I live, I see a familiar kind of Northwestern girl in Amanda Knox, and all the stretching, the funny faces, the neo-hippie touches are benign. In Italy, they see a devil, someone without remorse, inappropriate in her reactions.† What makes these â€Å"touches† benign- simply the fact that, to Egan, Knox was â€Å"a familiar kind of Northwestern girl?†Ã‚  While waiting to be interrogated, Knox reportedly did cartwheels. Egan chalks this up to Knox being an athlete. But if Donovan McNabb or LeBron James were being investigated for murder and did cartwheels during an interrogation, would their behavior be taken as that of a benign athlete or make them look unfeeling and flippant? Egan attempts to undermine Italy by making it appear as if sinister Italians were angling to punish this girl who not only reminds him of numerous girls from the Pacific Northwest but also of his own daughter. Yet, non-Italian friends of British murder victim Meredith Kercher considered Knox’s behavior to be strange as well, counteracting Egan’s attempts to discredit Italian sensibilities. â€Å"While I was [at the police station] I found Amanda’s behavior very strange. She had no emotion while everyone else was upset,† Kercher’s friend Robyn Butterworth testified in court. And when another friend reportedly remarked that she hoped Kercher hadn’t suffered much, Butterworth recalled Knox replying, â€Å"What do you think? She f___ing bled to death.† At that point, Butterworth said, the way Kercher died hadn’t been released. Amy Frost, another friend of Kercher, testified about Knox and Knox’s boyfriend at the time, Raffaele Sollecito. â€Å"Their behavior at the police station seemed, to me, really inappropriate,† Frost said. â€Å"They sat opposite each other, Amanda put her feet up on Raffaele’s legs and made faces at him. Everyone cried except Amanda and Raffaele. I never saw them crying. They were kissing each other.† Egan could have written a defense of Knox that focused on the fact that there was virtually no physical evidence of her having been at the crime scene and what little there was came under dispute because it was collected more than a month after the murder and, thus, thought to be contaminated. Instead, he chose to characterize Italy as a nation of backward, inane people. â€Å"As this week’s closing arguments showed once again, the case has very little to do with actual evidence and much to do with the ancient Italian code of saving face,† Egan wrote on  Dec. 2. Just as Egan chose not to explain why Knox’s odd antics during her interrogation were benign, he doesn’t explain why â€Å"saving face† is an â€Å"ancient Italian code.† It’s seemingly so just because he declares it to be. In the same editorial, he discusses the Italian jury much in the same way whites have traditionally discussed people of color, such as Haitian practitioners of Vodou, Puerto Rican practitioners of Santeria, Native American medicine men or African â€Å"witch doctors.† â€Å"Their verdict is not supposed to be about medieval superstitions, sexual projections, Satan fantasies or the honor of a prosecution team,† Egan writes. Egan implies Italy’s legal system is filled with people who can’t be trusted to make rational decisions, a matter of crucial importance when the future of a young American white woman is at stake. How horrible that Amanda Knox’s fate is in the hands of these crazy Italians? These people still believe in superstitions and Satan, for heaven’s sake! The way Egan and Knox’s own relatives described Italians reminded me that Americans haven’t always regarded Italians as white. This makes undermining the rationality and trustworthiness of the Italian people and court system go largely unquestioned. In a book called Are Italians White?, Louise DeSalvo writes about discrimination Italian immigrants to America faced. â€Å"I learned†¦that Italian-Americans were lynched in the South; that they were incarcerated during World War II. †¦I later learned that Italian men who worked on the railroad earned less money for their work than ‘whites’; that they slept in filthy, vermin-infested boxcars; that they were denied water, though they were given wine to drink (for it made them tractable)†¦Ã¢â‚¬  Some of the comments about Italians in the Knox case certainly seem like throwbacks to a time when Italians weren’t viewed as white. I have a hard time imagining that if Knox had been tried in England, consistent efforts would be made to discredit the British judicial system. To make matters worse, while American xenophobia is being aimed at Italy, American supporters of Knox are painting Italy as anti-American. Former prosecutor John Q. Kelly even used racialized language when discussing Knox’s plight, likening treatment of her to â€Å"a public lynching.† Isn’t this how racism works today? People who exhibit clearly racist attitudes and behaviors accuse President Obama of being anti-white or blame Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for perpetuating racism rather than historic, institutionalized white supremacy. After Knox was found guilty of murder, U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell stated, â€Å"I have serious questions about the Italian justice system and whether anti-Americanism tainted this trial.† This argument of anti-Americanism falls apart considering that Italian national Raffaele Sollecito was also found guilty of murder. Are we to believe that an Italian jury would sacrifice one of its own to spite America? The problematic racial overtones in the reporting of the case not only involve Italians but black men. Following her November 2007 arrest, Knox wrote to police that bar owner Patrick Lumumba killed Kercher. â€Å"In these flashbacks that I’m having, I see Patrik [sic] as the murderer, but the way the truth feels in my mind, there is no way for me to have known because I don’t remember FOR SURE if I was at my house that night.† Because of Knox’s repeated insinuations that Lumumba murdered Kercher, he spent two weeks in jail. Police ended up releasing him because he had a solid alibi. Lumumba sued Knox for defamation and won. While Egan has mentioned that Knox mistakenly linked Lumumba to Kercher’s murder, he quickly let her off the hook for it, as did a commenter at women’s Web site Jezebel who remarked: â€Å"I don’t judge her for that at all. She was held in an Italian prison, questioned for days, and encouraged to ‘confess.’† But to ignore Knox’s transgression on this front is to ignore the history of sympathetic (but guilty) white Americans fingering black men for crimes the men never committed. In 1989, for instance, Charles Stuart shot and killed his pregnant wife, Carol, but told police that a black man was responsible. Two years later, Susan Smith murdered her young sons but told police initially that a black man had carjacked her and kidnapped the boys. Although Knox said that she fingered Lumumba for the crime under duress, her doing so casts suspicion on her and shouldn’t be overlooked by those who find it hard to believe that a pretty American coed is capable of murder. Another black man, Rudy Guede from the Ivory Coast, was convicted of killing Kercher before Knox and Sollecito were, but evidence suggested that more than one assailant was involved in Kercher’s demise.  If authorities believe that Guede didn’t act alone, why is it difficult to believe that Knox also played a role in Kercher’s murder? After all, Knox gave inconsistent statements about her whereabouts the evening of Kercher’s death and did not call police after reportedly finding the door to her home wide open and blood on the floor. To boot, her lover, Sollecito, bought two bottles of bleach the morning after Kercher’s death allegedly to clean up the crime scene, where police found his bloody footprints as well as Knoxâ €™s. These facts hardly reflect well on Knox, so I’m willing to consider her guilt as well as her innocence. Perhaps her use of hashish the night of Kercher’s death clouded her memory. But those who refuse to consider that Knox is guilty, all the while attacking the Italian justice system, remind me of those who struggled to believe that Lizzie Borden hacked her parents to death in 1892. â€Å"The horrific ax murders of Andrew Borden and his third wife, Abby, would have been shocking in any age, but in the early 1890s they were unthinkable,† writes Denise M. Clark in Crime Magazine. â€Å"Equally unthinkable was who wielded the ax that butchered them†¦The idea that the murderer could possibly be†¦Lizzie took days to register with the police – despite overwhelming physical and circumstantial evidence that pointed only at her†¦.What would end up saving her was the remarkable violence of the murders: The murders were simply too grisly to have been committed by a woman of her upbringing.† Isn’t this the argument that Egan makes when he described Knox as a benign hippie type from the Pacific Northwest? Knox, we’re told, worked multiple jobs to save up money to study abroad. She excelled in athletics and academics  alike. Girls like her don’t commit murder, many Americans believe. And if she were tried stateside, perhaps she would have gotten off as Lizzie Borden did. But apparently, Italians aren’t burdened by the cultural baggage that weighs down America. White and female and from a good family don’t equal innocent.

The physiological change that concerns me the most is the diminished eyesight. The changes in eyesight lead to the loss of the ability to judge depth when objects are near or far. The peripheral vision also decreases leading to blurred vision and even blindness at very advanced ages. Moreover, decreased eyesight leads to decreased clarity of colours. This kind of boom/bust cycles are common with economies that rely heavily in resource extraction. As long as the resource has huge demand, the boom attracts people and bust pushes people into other regions. Population in the north could have been more stable if the region’s economy was more diverse. There is little manufacturing that can give people stable jobs. The north trails other regions in terms of employment. The further north you move, the worse the problem of unemployment. When Ontario is compared to other regions in the county, the region as a whole fares poorly. Politically, the region feels isolated from the rest of Ontario.
